Concept Artist (2D & 3D)

About You:

An accomplished Artist, you are passionate about creating high-quality concepts for multiple platforms in a range of genres and styles. Skilled at creating artwork that can be easily realized in a 3D engine by 3D XReality technical artists, you are able to propose creative solutions that take projects to the next level.

Your Team:

The Creative department brings all of Hanai World’s imaginary concepts to life. They shape the ideas that become experiences that capture the imagination of people around the world

Your Mission:

Reporting to the Sr. Art Director and working closely with other members of the creative team, you will help set the visual tone/style for the Hanai World project, defining, and refining characters and environments to ensure consistency and cohesion between the 3D artists, producers, programmers, and rest of the creative team. 

Your Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for creating concept art – from quick sketches and exploratory concepts to polished high-end 2D and 3D artworks - that can be easily translated in a 3D Game engine
  • Following verbal direction and creative briefs, you will expand on and refine the look, feel and visual style of Hanai World including environments, characters, and props
  • Yow will research and study artistic references
  • You will participate in regular review and feedback sessions
  • You will help identify risks and offer solutions
  • You will propose creative solutions, meaningfully contributing to all stages of development and production
  • You will work with the production team to establish schedules
  • You will collaborate with and provide PSD files to video artists when needed

Your Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the videogame industry creating high-quality 2D and 3D concepts and artwork with at least 1 shipped video game title 
  • Background in traditional and digital art with strong foundational art skills including anatomy, lighting, color, form, composition, perspective, and architecture
  • Exceptional ideation and visual storytelling skills
  • Extensive experience world building
  • Able to quickly and easily draft and showcase ideas
  • Able to work according to art direction and in multiple genres and styles
  • Mastery of Photoshop 
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D digital drawing software and image editing/mock-up tools
  • Strong capacity for interpreting concept art and creating designs for translation into 3D
  • Superior design skills: Industrial, Mechanical, Functional
  • An impressive portfolio that demonstrates a high degree of creativity as well as 2D and, 3D artwork
  • Experience in Maya, Z-brush, Sketch-up preferred
  • Knowledge of animation (2D or 3D) a plus.
  • Able to collaborate, problem-solve, and propose creative solutions
  • Experience working with other artists, programmers and designers
  • Ability to work independently and remotely on occasion
  • Able to work quickly, respect deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality results
  • Life-long learner interested in acquiring new skills
  • Curious about advanced concept art methods and techniques
  • A strong interest in immersive technologies and the metaverse
  • Strong communication and writing skills both in French and/or in English
